Roger Michael Hintz, 71, of Freeport, IL passed away unexpectedly on Sunday August 4th, 2024, surrounded by his family at University of Iowa Hospital.
Roger was born March 7, 1953 to Harold and Patricia (McGinnis) Hintz in Freeport, IL. He was a graduate of Warren High School where he met his wife Linda of 49 years. He graduated from Northern Illinois University. Roger retired as a DBA at Newell-Rubbermaid in Freeport, IL.
Roger was an avid sports fan of Aquin High School, Loras College, and the Green Bay Packers. He was a sports writer for The Freeport Journal Standard and a registered basketball official for 25 years. He also played in the 35 and older Freeport softball league. He loved camping, golfing, and fishing in Chetek, WI with family. His most memorable trips were traveling to Door County, Western USA National Parks, and across Europe on a Rhine River Cruise. He enjoyed watching Notre Dame and Green Bay Packer football, smoking a good cigar and MASH!
He is survived by his wife, Linda, sons Chad of Freeport, Matt (Cassie) of Davenport, IA, Mother Patricia of Warren, IL and granddaughter Theadora Lee Hintz of Davenport, IA. He is also survived by siblings; Robert of Freeport, IL, Joan (Stephen) Sullivan of Stockton, IL, Michael (Deborah) of Stockton, IL, Janet (Daryl) Freese of Stockton, IL, Janeen Gobel of Lena, IL, Kevin (Lisa) of Dubuque, IA, and Harold (Amy) of Deforest, WI. In addition, he also is survived by sisters-in- law Vickie Webster of Sheldon, IL and Ginnie (Greg) Townsend of Freeport, IL, and brother-in-law Wayne Martin of Monroe, WI. He also leaves behind 20 nieces and nephews and 28 great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Harold, brother-in-law Dennis Webster, and his dog Cassie.
We are all deeply saddened and Roger will be greatly missed. However, we will always remember his great laugh and sharing stories of unforgettable times with him.
Visitation will be held Friday August 9, 2024 from 5-8pm at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, IL, with a scripture service beginning at 4:45 pm Service will be held Saturday August 10, 2024 at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Freeport, IL. A luncheon will be served at the Eagles Club in Freeport following the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Roger’s name.
