Robert Reed

Robert Reed, 84, of Freeport, IL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 7, 2022. He was born October 8, 1937, in Freeport, IL, the son of Roy and Clara (Nehus) Reed who preceded him in death as did his brother William (Connie) Reed. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Geraldine (Devon) Reed; sister, Carol (Jim) Tegl; children, Tracey Boe of Spring Hill, FL, Julie (David) Servatius of Lena, IL, Gloria (Whit) Johnson of Durham, NC, Karen (Mark) Brashaw of Tomball, TX, Kathy (Dave Morris) Tobin of Fulton, IL, Jackie (Jay) King of Rock Falls, IL, and Gerald (Angie) Reed of Warren, IL, 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and relatives. He graduated from Freeport Aquin High School in 1955 and served in the US Navy from 1955-1958. Robert had a passion for his catholic faith and served as an usher at St. Joseph's Church in Freeport, IL for over 20 years. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Freeport Salvation Army for 30 years. He owned and Operated the City Service Company, Standard Oil Service and later Marathon Oil Service Stations in Freeport from 1958 until 2002, when retired from the auto service industry and became a salesman for his very close friend Jim Barkau and Son's Used Cars until his health caused him to retire in 2020. Robert was never seen without a smile on his face and enjoyed all of his lifetime friends, family and customers. Funeral services will be Saturday June 11, 2022, 10:30 a.m. at St Joseph. Catholic Church. Fr. Peter Snieg will officiate. Visitation Friday June 10, 2022, 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established for FHN Hospice and Freeport Salvation Army in Robert's memory.
