Robert F. Connors, 72, of Freeport died Monday, July 25, 2011, at FHN Memorial Hospital.Bob was born August 2, 1938, in Freeport, son of John and Magdalen (Wiemers) Connors. He married Sandra Lee Engel June 19, 1965.A 1956 graduate of Aquin High School, Bob served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1959 to 1962 and was a lifelong member of St. Joseph'™s Catholic Church. For many years, he had his own 7-Up distributorship. He also worked for J.H. Patterson Co. and created the lumber division for ABC Lumber Company.His great joys included watching his grandsons'™ sporting and performing arts events, watching Cubs and Bears games, playing in the 35-and-over Slow Pitch League, watching NASCAR, traveling to watch his son perform in Lincoln-Douglas events, and coaching his son'™s Little League teams. He was a member of the Am-Vets and a former member of the Germania Club.He is survived by his wife, Sandy (Engel) Connors of Freeport; son Tim (Becky) Connors of Freeport; grandsons Ethan and Henry Connors of Freeport; siblings Richard (Judy), Roberta (Ron) Schradermeier, Mary, John (Joyce), all of Freeport; sister-in-law Ann (Dick) Lamia of Freeport; nieces and nephews Terri (Tom) DeDecker, Ed (Uli) Schradermeier, Sandy (Darrin) Detert, Deb (Richard) Eads, Jodi (Bill) Uitos, Jeff (Heidi) Connors, Julie Connors, and many great-nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald, and parents-in-law Lloyd and Ruth Engel.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at St. Joseph Church, with Father Timothy Barr officiating.Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Burke-Tubbs and 9:30 to 10:30 Saturday morning at St. Joseph'™s Church.
