Robert E. Weegens

Robert Weegens, 65, of Forreston, died Friday September 25, 2015 in his home. He was born August 24, 1950 in Freeport, IL, the son of Justus and Edna (Schoonhoven) Weegens. He married Cher Harvelle. Robert worked 30 years with the I.D.O.T. before retiring, and also worked 12 years for Gale Miller Farms in Shannon, IL. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran. Robert is survived by his wife Cher of Forreston, IL; his son Derek (LeAnn) Weegens of Polo, IL; his daughter Lisa (Tony) Smith of Fort Riley, KS; his step-son Adam (Summer) Griffin Driscoll of Russelville, AR; his step-daughters Anna (Greg) Derrick of Rockford, IL and Sarah Griffin of Chadwick, IL; his brother Willis (Karen Weegens of Payson, AZ; his sister Marian (Roy) Hayes of Forreston, IL; and 13 grandchildren Khadeja, Pierce, Chris Ben, Malachi, Autumn, Kaleigh, Pixie, Thomas, Dakota, Ava, Blake, Dakota Lin, and Aleigha. He was preceded in death by his parents Justus and Edna; his brother Duane; his sister Shirley; his step-sons Paul, Mark, and John; and his granddaughters Alysa and Kelcey. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday September 29, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Forreston, with Rev. David Poust officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 3:00-7:00 P.M. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Forreston. Burial in White Oak Cemetery will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established in his memory.
