Robert "Bob" Walter Mcdonald

Robert "Bob" Walter McDonald, 80, of Freeport, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at FNH Memorial Hospital in Freeport. Robert was born July 5, 1942 in Aurora, IL the son of Robert Wood and Ester (Cordes) McDonald. He married Hope Elaine Sheridan on June 7, 1969 in Chicago,Il, after which they were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Provo, Utah temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They were then blessed with seven children; Dawn, Garrett, William, Bryan, Jason, MaryBeth and David. Robert served in the United States Army from 1965-1967. Robert worked as an electronic engineer for over 40 years, first with Northrop in Chicago and then Honeywell in Freeport, retiring in 2008. Robert enjoyed serving and volunteering in many capacities throughout the local community, organizations and his church. He loved the outdoors, taking trips to Canada with his children and was a Master Gardener. Robert was also a member of the Illinois Agriculture Extension and a past Scout Master. He was passionate about educating people about Family Search, a genealogy archive database provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Most of all Robert loved spending time with his family. Robert was blessed to serve as a church-service missionary and a valiant temple worker from 2005-2020. He served as Bishop for his local congregation in the Chicago area. Upon moving to Freeport, Il Robert continued to have several church callings, of which his most favorite place to serve was as a Family History consultant. Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years Hope McDonald of Freeport; four children, Bryan (Melissa) McDonald of Freeport, Jason (Sarah) McDonald of Freeport, MaryBeth (Josh) Smith of Lena, David (Danica) McDonald of Littleton, CO; 11 grandsons; 11 granddaughters and one sister, Sarah Goodman of Orange City, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and three children, Dawn Tucker, Garrett McDonald and William McDonald. Funeral Service will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1716 South Forrest Road, Freeport, IL 61032 with Bishop Richard Reid, officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00am -11:30am prior to the funeral service at the church on Tuesday. Cremation Rites to follow services.
