Robert 'Bob" Lahne

Robert (Bob) Lahne, 83, of Freeport died Tuesday, March 22, 2016, in his home surrounded by his family. Born September 22, 1932, in Sidell, Illinois, the fourth of five sons born to (William) Ira Lahne and Florence (Peters) Lahne. Graduated from the University of Illinois in 1955 and served in the United States Navy for two years. He served as an Agriculture Extension Advisor for the University of Illinois for over 40 years, the last 29 years in Stephenson County. He saw many changes to the family farm in his career that spanned the years 1954-1997. In his own words, "I have been blessed to have been a part of the great farm revolution. The final analysis comes down to people. Working with farm families to help them achieve their dreams and family goals is the greatest feeling of accomplishment a person can have." Bob loved to golf with family and friends and was a faithful Cubs, Bears, and Illini fan. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. Bob married Alice Huette on June 12, 1955, in Tremont, Illinois. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Alice; children Lydia (Dr. Dennis) Bowen of Kiev, Ukraine, Lois (Paul) Dixon of Belvidere, David (Vicki) Lahne of Shiloh, Illinois and Diane (Dr. Paul) Willis of Belvidere. Also survived by grandchildren Ryan (Laura) Lahne, Kristina (Justin) Kain, Sarah (Tristan) Hunter, Joel (Miriam) Dixon, John-Paul (Katie) Dixon, Benjamin (KayeLani) Dixon, Dr. Michael Dixon, Mark Dixon, Porscha (LaMark) Barclay and Cameron Willis; and great-grandchildren Brandon, Allison, Ella Mae, Kent, Harrison, Faith, Robert, John and Leilani. He was preceded in death by his four brothers and his brother-in-law. Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, 504 N. Walnut Ave., Freeport, with visitation from 1:00-3:00 on Saturday. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Pastor David Spooner of Mosaic Rockford Church will officiate.
