Richard Walter Jacobs (Jake), 85 of Mount Carroll passed away at his home early Friday morning, April 29, 2011. He was born November 5, 1925 in Freeport, IL, the son of Walter Alvin and Jeanette (Milversted) Jacobs. He attended school in Freeport, Illinois after which he joined the Army Air Corp, serving from 1943-1945. After returning to Freeport he went into the law enforcement services, serving both the City of Freeport as an officer for 7 years, and then the State of Illinois for approximately 30 years as a Trooper. He loved fishing hunting and trapping. His greatest passion, which he talked, lived and breathed, was his collection of Winchesters and Colts '" he loved his guns. All of Dick'™s friends fondly called him Jake. He loved his family and showed it with respect and compassion. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and avid outdoorsman. He and Joyce Marcum were married on November 2, 1946 and had 3 children. He then married Susan (Ritchey) Weier on July 14, 1978 in Mount Carroll, Illinois and raised 2 children with her. He is preceded in death by his parents and his eldest son, Richard Jacobs. He is survived by his wife Susan; children Jeffrey Jon (Kim) Jacobs, Kathy Jo Hansen, David Lee (Kathy) Weier and Darin Lee Weier; grandchildren Jennifer Shick, Richard Jacobs, Kalista Collins, Amy Jacobs, Jess Geiken, Jacob Bumphrey, Amber Weier, Keela Weier, Justin Weier, Briauna Weier and Kailani Weier; and 8 great grandchildren and son-in-laws John Geiken and Dick Hansen. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Freeport. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Freeport, IL. A 'Friendship Gathering' will follow at the Freeport VFW Club at 12:00. A memorial has been established for the National Rifle Association (NRA).
