Richard L. Meyers

Richard L. Meyers, 81, of Freeport passed away Thursday December 17, 2015 in his home. Richard was born on June 26, 1934, in Freeport, the son of Stephen Meyers and Marie Hodapp. Richard worked as a crane and heavy equipment operator for the Operators Union Local #150. He married Norma J. Thruman on October 18, 1958 at the First Lutheran Church in Freeport. Norma passed away on November 27, 2008. Family was a very important part of Richard's life. He also enjoyed the outdoors, working on his yard, and going to the casino. Richard was on the Operators Union Local #150 board and a member of the Germania Club. Surviving are his two sons, Randy (Pam) Meyers of Freeport, and Jeff (Kelly) Meyers of Santa Ana, California; daughter, Lori (Mike) Young of Freeport; three brothers, Dennis (Carol) Meyers of Cedarville, Steve (Diane) Meyers of Freeport, and Gene Meyers of Rockford; sister, Suzanne Gallagher of Freeport; five grandchildren, Jenna Hill, Josh Hill, Jeremy Hill, Cole Meyers, and Nate Meyers; and three great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, and grandson, Nicholas. Following private family viewing cremation rights will be accorded. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 28, 2015 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. There will be a visitation at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service.
