Richard George Ivanhoff, 92, of Freeport, died Tuesday March 21, 2017 at FHN Memorial Hospital. He was born September 1, 1924 in Lead, SD, the son of Martin and Hilda May (Richards) Ivanhoff. He married Estelle Buell January 12, 1947 in Belvidere. Richard was a U.S. Navy Veteran during WWII in the North Atlantic. He moved to Freeport in 1962. He was the director of purchasing for the Newell Company before he retired in 1987. He was a past commander of AM Vets and was active in Old Settlers Days. He was a member of the VFW, Elks Lodge 617, Bel-Mar Country Club, and the Freeport Country Club. Richard is survived by his wife Estelle Ivanhoff of Freeport, IL; his son Mark (Karen) Ivanhoff of Chapel Hill, NC; and his granddaughter Jennifer (Charles) Lavallee of Silver Spring, MD. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Gary Ivanhoff; and his brother Matthew Ivanhoff, who was killed in WWII. Private family services will be held.
