Richard Dale Meyer

Richard Dale Meyer, 80, of Freeport, IL died Sunday August 22, 2021 at Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon, IL. He was born September 1, 1940 to Alfred I. and Helen (Lubbers) Meyer. He went to Cranes Grove School and graduated from Forreston High School in 1958. September 24, 1960 he married Judy (Trei). Together they farmed with dairy, hogs, and grain until the dairy barn burned in 1976 which later became a beef cow/calf and grain operation. Richard was on the Baileyville elevator board, received his FFA state farmers degree, was a 25 year member of the Freeport Rural Fire Department, a member of the Baileyville Reformed Church where he served many years as the Sunday School Superintendent, deacon and elder of the church. He was a lifelong farm bureau member, an officer of the Stephenson County Beef Association, served 32 years as a trustee of the Silver Creek Township board and clerk before retiring. Richard really enjoyed the Monday morning farmers coffee group. Richard is survived by his wife; two children David (Lynne) Meyer of Freeport, IL; and Susan (Leland) Engelkens of Forreston, IL; grandchildren Brittney (Sam) Watts of MN; Captain Jesse (Ashley) Ruter of NC; Lindsey (betrothed Chase Wiese) of FL; and Justin Ruter of GA. Six great grandchildren Olaf, Luther, Gunnar, and Lars Watts and Alexandra and Charlotte Ruter. Richard is also survived by his brother Larry (Susan) Meyer of Ora Valley AZ; and sister-in-law Louise Meyer of Roanoke, IL. Preceding Richard in death are his parents; brother Dr. Ronald Meyer; sister Janice (Robert) Nubbymyer; and former son-in-law Jeffrey Ruter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday August 26, 2021 at the Baileyville Reformed Church with Ken Renkes officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. Wednesday August 25, 2021 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral in Freeport. A memorial has been established for Baileyville Reformed Church and Serentiy Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL.
