Phyllis M. Mclain

Phyllis Mae McLain, 99, of Freeport, IL, passed away December 23, 2023 at Ascension Living Saint Joseph Village in Freeport. She was born July 1, 1924 in Belvidere, IL to Harold and Gladys (Colvin) Johnson. On April 2, 1954 she married Norman McLain in Rockton, IL. Norman passed way October 17, 1990. Phyllis was employed at Honeywell as a quality control inspector for many years. After retiring from Honeywell, Phyliss nannied for Dr. Dosi and really enjoyed spending time with the Dosi children. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Freeport. Phyllis enjoyed camping with her husband and doing yardwork at home. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children Dee Linder of Freeport, IL and Roger (Dena) Kampmier of Davis, IL; daughter-in-law Shirley Mergen; grandchildren, Nate (Becky) Linder, Kimberley (Andrew) Keil, Heath (Jen) Linder, Lisa (Rob) Miller, Amy Soto, Kyle (Kari) Kampmier, and Ryan (Rachel) Kampmier; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and special friends Sandy Langley and Judy Mercier.

Preceding Phyllis in death is her parents, husband, son Ron Mergen, sister Mary Arola, brother Frank Johnson and son-in-law Nate Linder.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday December 30, 2023 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Phyllis’ memory.
