Phyllis June Ackerman

Phyllis June Ackerman, 81, of Freeport, passed away, Wednesday October 2, 2024, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis was born March 19, 1943, in Pecatonica, Illinois, the daughter of Rudolph and Phoebe (Dittsworth) Klenz. She married Allan Ackerman April 6, 1966, in German Valley, Illinois. Mr. Ackerman passed away January 10, 2020. Mrs. Ackerman worked at FHN in housekeeping for 26 years. She was a member of Zion Church of Freeport. Phyllis and Allan farmed the Scioto Mills area for many years. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable garden, and canning for her family.

Surviving are her son, Dwayne (Tina) Ackerman of Murrieta, California; daughter, Mary Ackerman of Freeport; two brothers, Vern Klenz of Dixon and Allen Klenz of Freeport; three sisters, Betty Borgman of Forreston, Velda Baal of Freeport, and Darlene Greenfield of Ridott; also surviving granddaughter, Briana Ackerman.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Kenneth and Gerald; and sister, Marjorie Klapp.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday October 18, 2024 at Zion Church of Freeport. Pastor Steve Rios will officiate. Visitation Thursday October 17, 2024 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Phyllis’s memory.
