Pauline Alice Krogull Lasley

October 20, 1915 — May 17, 2016

Pauline Alice Krogull Lasley, 100, formerly of Freeport, Illinois died on May 17, 2016 in Boise, Idaho. Born October 20, 1915 in Freeport, Illinois to Frank Joseph Krogull and Alice Anna (Frueh) Krogull at their home on East Shawnee Street near 14th Avenue. Pauline was the oldest of five children and the only girl. Pauline married Harold Lasley of Indianapolis on June 12, 1944 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Freeport. Pauline lived a life of adventure. She swam until age 97, canoed into her 80s, cross-country skied into her 60s, and rode horses into her 50s. She took flying lessons in the mid-1930s and traveled to many foreign countries and most of the 50 states. With her girlfriend, Irene Kelly, Pauline drove her Chevy coupe (with rumble seat) from Freeport to attend the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition in Dallas and then to visit her father's relatives in Baird, Texas. In 1941, Pauline joined the Woman's Ambulance Corp, which was attached to Camp Grant in Rockford, Illinois. This is where she met her future husband who was a sergeant in the Army motor pool. Striking, tall and smart as a young woman, she cut quite a figure. Pauline was one of the few who could handle her beautiful black ex-circus horse, Jiggs. Pauline was a secretary at the Myer Ford dealership for a number of years and then worked for more than 20 years as the office manager/secretary for the Freeport Park District. Family was all-important to Pauline and her husband Harold. They were always there to support, help and love. Preceding her in death was her husband, Harold; her parents Frank and Alice Krogull; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Anne Krogull, Frank Krogull Jr., and Donald and Vivian Krogull. Pauline is survived by daughters, Susan Lasley of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Stephanie (Mike) Lasley-Balch, Boise, Idaho; son, Harold Lasley, Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren, Erika (Brett) Kappel and two great-grandchildren, Avery and Liam Kappel all of Midland, Texas, Amber Gulbis of Boise, Erin (Kelly) Nelson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Zackary Lasley of Elk River, Minnesota; brother and sister-in-law, James and Virginia Krogull, Freeport; sister-in-law Loraine (Lasley) Atherton (age 103) of Greenfield, Indiana. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thanks to the staff and hospice support at the Emerson House in Boise for the wonderful care they gave Pauline during her last years. Services will held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 3 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation hours will be 10:00 a.m. June 3 to time of Mass at St. Thomas Church. In lieu of flowers, donations will be given to Pauline's favorite charities. Remember, Pauline always said, "Don't feel sorry for yourself, get out and do something." Please sign Pauline's guestbook and share a memory at www.burketubbs.com.
