Paul Vernon Devries

Paul Vernon DeVries, 93, of Forreston, died in his home on Thursday September 8, 2011. Paul was born on May 14, 1918 on the DeVries Farm. The son of John and Henrietta (Reints) DeVries. On August 29, 1938 at Prairie Dell Presbyterian Church Paul married Leona Grace DeWall. Paul attended Forreston Schools. He was a member of Forreston Reformed Church where he was a deacon and elder, other memberships included former Forreston Community Club, 50 year member of the Ogle County Farm Bureau. Served on the board of trustees for Hope College, was past president of Forreston Council of Churches, Paul also served on the board of trustees of the Lincoln Township. At the time of his retirement in 1990 he had farmed the family farm for 52 years. He was co-owner of DeVries Implement for 7 years. Paul enjoyed sports, reading and traveling. After retirement he continued working at the farm and doing volunteer work. Family Church and community were all an important part of his life. Survivors include; wife, Leona Grace DeVries, two sons; Roger (Sandy) DeVries of Milledgeville and Derald (Nola) DeVries of Forreston, grandchildren; Gwen (Brian) Weidman of Dixon, Cheryl (Bob) Allen of Sterling, Mark (Lori) DeVries of Forreston, Jill DeVries of Forreston, Gregg (Kris) DeVries of Byron and Amy (Scott) Campbell of Forreston, great-grandchildren; Kody Grove, Nathan, Ryan and Reid Blackburn, Austin and Chandler Allen, Dane, Derek, and Haley DeVries, Angela, Justin and Erin Butler, Dakotah and Peyton Sorn, Grant and Lexi DeVries, Alyssa and Abby Cavazos and Jacob Campbell. Also surviving is a great-great grandchild, Ryleigh Butler, two sisters Gladys Ludewig of Forreston and Lois Cheeseman of Shannon. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Keith and Jay DeVries and one sister Millie Vietmeier. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 12, 2011 at Forreston Reformed Church with Rev. Timothy Fry officiating. Visitation will be Sunday 5:00-7:30 P.M. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Forreston.
