Paul A. Thraen

Paul A. Thraen, 71, of Freeport, died Friday January 24, 2020 at Medina Nursing Center, Durand. Paul was born December 23, 1948 in Elizabeth, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Cora (Wand) Thraen. Paul was a 1968 graduate of Elizabeth High School. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Paul enjoyed listening to the Chicago Cubs on the radio, going to the Casino in Dubuque, Iowa, and scratching off lottery tickets at home while relaxing. He worked on the railroads for many years. Surviving is four siblings, Elizabeth (Ron) Bocker of Leaf River, Joe (Jan) Thraen of Elizabeth, Rosemary (Don) Blackbourn of Freeport, and Ray (Judy) Thraen of Elizabeth; eight nieces and nephews, Eric (Tanya) Bocker, Theresa (Mike) Ryia, Randy (Erica) Bocker, Jeannette Thraen, Judy (Steve) Backenkeller, Mike Blackbourn, Dan (Kaitlyn) Blackbourn, and Irene (Keith) Thraen-Borowski; and seventeen grandnieces and grandnephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Cora; brother, John Thraen; and nephew, John Potter. Services will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established in Paul's memory.
