Patricia A. (Brooks) Brumfield was born on January 13, 1953, in Freeport, IL., to the late Robert (R.T.) Brooks Sr. and Charlena (Shipp) Thomas. She attended Taylor Park Elementary School in Freeport from 1962-1969. She moved to Boston MA. where she attended Girls High School and graduated in 1974. She was employed by Massachusetts Association for the Blind. Patricia attended Boston College to become a kindergarten teacher. After receiving her degree, she went on to become a teacher for K1 and K2. She left Boston in 1996 and moved to East Peoria, IL, where she worked at East Peoria Wal-Mart as a Department Manager until moving back to Freeport.
Patricia was a loving and caring person who truly enjoyed helping others. She devoted her time to family and friends. She was also a devoted member of her church, Faith Center, where she was active in cooking for the Men’s Ministry. She loved gardening, decorating, canning, cooking, and watching her favorite movie, The Color Purple. Her favorite television shows were the Golden Girls, Living Single, and Good Times.
Patricia married the love of her life, Dennis M. Brumfield, on September 9, 2009. Dennis departed this life on September 3, 2021.
Patricia leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, Charlena Thomas; brothers Bishop P.E. (Lawanda) Brooks and Robert T. (Janice) Brooks Jr.; one niece, Melanie Brooks of Boston MA.; four nephews, Robert III, Marcus, Cyrus, and Gary, all of Boston MA.; special cousin/sister Laurie Ann Thomas; special cousin, Marvette Brooks; special niece, Letricia Mackin of St. Louis, MO.; one uncle, Henry (Mary) Shipp, of Freeport; aunts, Dorothy Fair of Freeport and Corrine Bruce of Houston, TX; special friends, Edna Johnson of Peoria, IL and Sherry Wenzel of Freeport; and Godchildren Aungelica McGee, LaToya Warden Brown, Anadia Ishmon, Maria Rhyne Adams, and Kevia Rhyne; and a host of loving cousins and friends.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis M. Brumfield; father, Robert Thomas (R.T.) Brooks; one brother, Thomas; maternal grandparents, American and Amanda Shipp; paternal grandparents, Gene and Rosena Brooks; and special aunt, Sarah Shipp-Parren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday October 28, 2023 at Faith Center, 203 W. Pleasant Street, Freeport, IL. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Freeport City Cemetery.
