Patricia A. Udell

Our beloved mother, spouse, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, Patricia A. Udell, 78, of Belvidere, Illinois passed away January 17, 2024, at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, IL. Patricia was born January 2, 1946 in Chicago, the daughter of Othmar and Bette (Swartz) Steinman.

Pat married Stephen Udell February 16, 1980, in Rockton, Il. She worked for the Rockford Register Star for 18 years in the advertising/sales department. Pat never met a stranger. Her bright eyes and opinionated voice often left little room for mystery with even the most reserved individuals. The wonderment she had for the curiosities of the world inspired (and bewildered) the minds of family and friends alike.

Her surviving family includes her loving and devoted husband, Steve Udell of Belvidere, Il.; children, Catherine Udell of Ashburn, Virginia, Jeffrey (Jessie ) Maville of Rockton, Il.; and Kimberly (George Rodriguez) Maville of Durand, Il.; brothers, Topper (Carol) Steinman of Urbana, Il., and Bob (Janet) Steinman of Hamilton, Il.; grandchildren, Antonio, Daniell, Georgie, and Gabriel Rodriguez, Kori (Michael) Koss, Kiara Maville, and Stella and Reese Leopold; great-grandson, Jason Koss; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins with a special recognition to Judy Tallman of Clinton, Wisconsin.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to send their utmost gratitude to the staff at the University of Madison-Wisconsin and Swedish-American hospitals for their dedication to her care. Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. A memorial has been established in Mrs. Udell's memory. Memorial contributions can be sent to Freeport Catholic Schools or a memorial of the donor’s choice.
