Paralee Shipp, 92, of Freeport, went to her eternal home on Sunday morning, January 29, 2012. She was born on August 28, 1919 in West , Mississippi, the daughter of Lemon and Hettie (Ellis) Horton. Paralee came to know Christ at an early age and joined west Baptist Church in West, Mississippi. She was united in marriage to Singleton Spencer Shipp on May 8, 1935 in west Mississippi. He died June 18, 1983. To this union eight children were born: four daughters Lee Clara Bell(deceased), Nellie (Ralph) Lenoir and Betty Williams of Freeport, Barbara Shipp of Chesapeake, VA; Four sons Earl Shipp, Larry Shipp and Lee Varn Shipp of Freeport, and Tanzie (Bessie) Shipp of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Paralee and Singleton later moved to Freeport, Illinois and joined the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Clayborn Salter. In 1988 she became a member of the First Church of God under the leadership of Reverend Hill. She loved family and her favorite hobbies were gardening, sewing and quilting. She made many beautiful quilts of lover for her children and grandchildren. Paralee had a great sense of humor and always had a kind word for all people that knew her. You can she never met a stranger because of her warn and loving personality. She was very devoted to her husband and children. She was employed a Structo Mfg. Company and Micro Switch (Honeywell) where she retired in 1981. She leaves cherished memories to three daughters; Nellie, Betty and Barbara, four sons; Earl, Tanzie, Larry and Lee Varn two brothers; Leon and Jimmy Horton, two sisters; Geraldine (Henry) McClain, Ethel (James) Fowler, 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and counting a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Singleton Shipp, two sisters; Beverly Tidwell and Mary Lou Horton, three brothers; Lemon Horton Jr., Wilt Horton and James Earl Horton and one daughter Lee Clara Bell. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday February 4, 2012 at First Church of God. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the Church.
