Otha Maurice Johnson, Jr passed away on August 20, 2023, in Seattle, WA.
Otha Jr was born in Freeport, IL on February 9, 1947, and was the eldest son of Otha Sr. and Martha Johnson. He spent much of his life in Illinois, California, and Washington State. While in Illinois, Otha worked for Sundstrand Hydraulics and as a police officer for the City of Freeport. He was especially close to his cousin Robert Johnson, Founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET) and in the early 80’s moved to California to work with Robert eventually moved up within the company as Vice President of Operations. He worked for BET for over eighteen (18) years. Otha Jr. retired in 2008 and moved to Washington State to be with his life partner, Alberta Mazique.
Otha Jr. is survived by his children, Jennifer (Jeremy) Knox and Otha M. (Daisy) Johnson, III; bonus children Carmen Stansberry (Candy), Andre Stansberry (Chico), Johvanna Stansberry (Cookie), Chantel Stansberry (Cherry) and Rhea Hefner (Chilli); grandchildren Courtney (Cornelius) Lewis, Kelsey Smith, Hunter, Raven and Cole Knox; Alyssa and Arielle Johnson; great grandchildren Jayden, Aubrey, Brooklynn and Olivia Lewis; brothers Kevin Johnson, Tracy (Raylette) Johnson, Terry (Earlene) Johnson; sisters Frances (George) Whitehead, Karlene Johnson, and Twila Johnson. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Otha was preceded in death by his parents and life partner Alberta Mazique.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on October 21st, 2023 at Faith for Miracle Deliverance & Worship Center.
