Obadiah "Opie" J. Mcgee Jr.

Obadiah "Opie" J. McGee Jr., 51, of Freeport, Illinois, departed his earthly life on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in his home. Obadiah was born April 12, 1966, in Freeport, to Izola (West Prince) McGee and Obadiah McGee Sr. He was raised by his loving grandmother, Ida Lee Prince. He graduated from Freeport Senior High School in 1984, and attended Highland Community College. He served in the United States Navy for 5 years onboard the USS Brewton stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Vallejo, CA. Obadiah worked for Sundstrand and Heine Plastic in Freeport, and various other jobs. He enjoyed music, singing and had a flair for fashion. He had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving mother, Izola McGee; two brothers, Tim(Jennifer) McGee of Waterloo, IA., and Carl McGee of Freeport; two sisters, Pearlie West of Waterloo, IA., and Patricia McGee of Freeport; grandmother, Magnolia McGee; aunts, Ida Mae Prince West, Lula Prince, Ella (Leroy) Ishmon, Joyce (Curtis) Robinson all of Freeport, Junita West of Rockford, Lorene Shipp of Quitman, MS., Virginia Weatherspoon of Waterloo, IA., and Lucille Davis of Washington D.C.; uncles, Jake West, Joe Willie (Janis) McGee both of Freeport, Bennie Kind of Rockford, Robert McGee of Quitman, MS, and A.W. Odie of Waterloo, IA; special great uncle, Frank (Arnetta) McGee of Freeport; special friend, Laury McCllean, Valerie West, Carolyn McGee and many others. Also surviving are special cousin, Mario Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Opie was preceded in death by his father, Obadiah McGee Sr.; grandparents, Ida lee prince, Doyle prince and William McGee; three uncles, Walter West, Junior West, and Willie Holmes. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at St. James CME Church (1001 East Empire Street, Freeport) Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Rev. Dr. T.
