Norma Mcmillen

Norma A. McMillen, 83, of Freeport died Sunday at Liberty Estates of Freeport. She was born November 14, 1929 in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of Earl and Alice (Engels) Pfeil. Norma married William T. McMillen on May 10, 1953 in Freeport. He died November 3, 1997. After graduating from Freeport High School in 1947, Norma became an administrative assistant for Freeport Insurance Co., where she pursued special coursework to learn the new world of computerized office automation. After she and Bill started their family, Norma turned her attention to full-time homemaking and church volunteer work. As her sons approached their college years, she returned to insurance work at Economy Fire and Casualty as a records specialist, and retired there in 1993. Norma loved birdwatching, reading (especially mysteries), solving crossword puzzles, playing cards, listening to music, and enjoying time with her family. She enjoyed traveling, and especially treasured memories of touring Germany and the Oberammergau Passion Play with her son, Steve, in 1990. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, a 60-year member of its Chancel Choir, an active member and past president of United Methodist Women, and a dedicated worker on the kitchen crew Mrs. McMillen is survived by her two sons; Stephen McMillen of Freeport and David (Deborah) McMillen of Moline, Illinois. Her sister, Anita (Cy) Crothers of Freeport. Three grandchildren; Jennifer Barfield, Joseph O'™Brien and Jered Kraft. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brother, LaVern Pfeil and her daughter in law. A funeral service for Mrs. McMillen will be Thursday, 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Freeport. Rev. Young Ok Park, pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport and also from 10:00 A.M. until time of service Thursday at the church.
