Norene V. Greenfield

Norene V. (Branche) Greenfield, 81, of Freeport (formerly of Forreston) passed away Friday, April 12, 2013. Born January 25, 1932, in Lake City, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Martin Branche and Lillian (Snook) Branche. Norene graduated from Forreston High School in 1950 and through the years was employed at several Forreston businesses including Crest Foods, Rutkowski Law Office, and Schmauss Chevrolet. On March 21, 1953, she married Donald Greenfield at Forreston Grove Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of Forreston Grove where she taught Sunday School, directed several choirs, participated in Women'™s Fellowship, and served as a vocalist on numerous occasions. She was also the chairman of Leaf River Christian Women'™s Club and enjoyed driving for Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. Much of Norene'™s passion in life revolved around her family and friends, church activities, and serving others. She enjoyed reading, bird watching, drawing, music, and helping her husband on the family farm. Norene especially loved family gatherings and any opportunity to cook meals for everyone to enjoy. Survivors include her husband, Don; three daughters, Sandy (Bill) Williams of Freeport, Cathy (the late Steven) Schmidt of Kandern, Germany, and Lauri (Bill) Plambeck of Forreston; six grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) and Lindsay Williams, Joseph, Stephen, and Mitchell Plambeck, and Jonathan Schmidt; and one great-grandchild, Dean Joseph. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Ed DeWall; and son-in-law, Steven Schmidt. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at Forreston Grove Church with Rev. Jeremy Cheezum officiating. Burial will be at Forreston Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday evening, April 19, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Forreston.A memorial fund has been established in her memory for Forreston Public Library and Forreston Grove Church.
