Noah R. Young

On Sunday, October 9, 2022, Noah Revain Young, husband, father of four children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, passed away at the age of 92. Noah was born on June 29, 1930 in Osawatomie, Kansas to Noah J. and Maudie (Cole) Young. He graduated high school and enlisted in the Navy in August of 1948 and served through the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Kansas with an accounting degree. After graduation he secured a job with Pittsburgh Paint in Akron, Ohio. Here he met and married Patty Jo Highland of Parkersburg, W.VA. They raised four children Terry (John) Brooks, Janet (John) Schubert, David Young of Freeport and Rodney (Tashi) Young of Lena; grandchildren Jacob (Elizabeth) Brooks, Jill (Seth) Landolt, Nathan (Libby) Schubert, Andrew (Katie) Schubert, Christa Young, Josh Young, Matthew Young, Rachel Young, Madison Young; great-grandchildren Alexa and Emma Brooks, Jackson Schubert and Nolan Landolt; many nieces and nephews, he continued a close relationship with nephew Steven Johnson Noah was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings; Opal Faulkner, Stella Johnson, Ellen Osborn, Ava Slifer, Thelma Bell, Emmogene Jeffries, Jasper Young, Leslie Young. In 1969 Noah transferred to Freeport with Kelly Springfield Tire Company as Comptroller where he worked until retirement in 1992. Upon retirement, Noah and Patty wintered in Florida for twenty years. Here they enjoyed making many new friends and growing close to several family members who lived in Florida. Noah lived through the depression and shared stories of the difficult days with little to no food, walking miles to cut lawns and harvest firewood to sell. He was particularly proud of his Navy years and often shared that these were some of the best years of his life. The Navy afforded him the opportunity to be the only sibling to earn a college education. From an early age he enjoyed woodworking, building pieces of furniture still being used by family today. He was skilled and loved playing the harmonica. He often played for the residents at Liberty Estates and Hawthorne Inn. Noah maintained a deep trust in Jesus Christ throughout his life and was a member of First Baptist Church and more recently Park Hills Evangelical Church. Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation, funeral and luncheon. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral to follow, Saturday October 15, 2022 at Park Hills Evangelical Free Church, Freeport, IL. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A luncheon will follow at the church. Memorial in Noah's name may be made to Samaritan's Purse.
