Neily O. Hammond, Jr., 83, of Freeport, died Thursday June 25, 2015 in his home. He was born October 10, 1931 in Freeport, Il, the son of Neily and Thelma (Mathews) Hammond Sr. He married Janet Blair September 7, 1954 in Rockford, IL; she died June 20, 2012. Neily worked at Hilltop Water Equipment and Plumber Supply Company, and also owned and operated the Eastwood Inn in the 1950's and 1960's. He was a stock car driver, and a member of the Elk's Lodge, Germania club, and the Eagles Club. Neily is survived by his son Todd Hammond of Woodstock, IL; three daughters Terri Franklin of Machesney Park, IL, Kathy (Rich) McNett of Lena, IL, and Sue Stichter of Freeport, IL; two sisters Carol Grossglauser of Gillespie, IL and Linda (Hank) Fortney of Freeport, IL; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and 1 step-great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brother Jack Hammond in 2002; two sisters Sharon Dailey and Christina Saxby both in 2004; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday June 29, 2015 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home with Rev. Jarrod Stichter officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at Burke-Tubbs. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory.
