Nancy J. Franz

May 17, 1955 — January 3, 2022

Nancy J. Franz, 66, of Freeport, passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2022. Nancy was born May 17, 1955, in Freeport the daughter of Hunley O. and Georgia L. (Brown) Stockton. Nancy had a strong work ethic and was passionate about her job. She spent over 20 years in the banking industry. She started off as a teller at Micro Switch Credit Union for many years before moving on to what is now U.S. Bank, working her way up to becoming an Assistant Vice President of Commercial Business at the end of her career. She cherished the relationships she built with her customers and colleagues throughout the years. Nancy will be remembered for her true excitement over the small things in life and her willingness to help others in need. She prided herself on finding just the right special gifts to give others and saved practically every card when someone sent her one. She was also someone that was just a phone call away and would drop everything to listen or help in any way she could. Some of her happiest memories were spending time with her daughter (Brittney) and granddaughter (Maddie). Maddie will remember spending a lot of quality time with her Nana over the past few years. They enjoyed reading books, dancing to music, and being creative together. They had a special bond and Nana's memory will live on forever with her family. Surviving is her daughter, Brittney (Nick) Carr of Rockford; brother, Steve Stockton of Byron; three sisters, Judy (Jim) Kaney of Forreston, Joyce Mordick of Freeport, and Jean Stockton-Herrera of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and granddaughter, Madeline (Maddie) Carr. Nancy was also anxiously awaiting the arrival of her grandson Jack. Also, surviving is her former husband, Mike Franz of Freeport; and good friend, Ron Werntz. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mary Carolyn Sieber and Terry Martin; and brother, John Stockton. Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 23rd, 2022 from 1 - 3 pm and end with a short prayer and parting words. A memorial has been established in Nancy's memory.
