Myrtle I. Buttel, 91, of German Valley, died Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Manor Court of Liberty Village, Freeport. Myrtle was born August 11, 1926 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Hjalmar and Hildegard (Goelzer) Strommen. She married Calvin Buttel August 11, 1951 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mr. Buttel passed away October 21, 1992. Myrtle was a 1949 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Myrtle was a teacher in both German Valley and Seward. She was a member of Silver Creek Reformed Church in German Valley where she was also active in the women's group and taught Sunday School. Myrtle enjoyed working on numerous craft projects and reading in her free time. Surviving are her children, Ellen (Bill) Klatt of Pecatonica, Marna (Mike) Kitzmiller of Rock Falls and Bruce (Tracy) Buttel of Madison, Wisconsin; four grandsons, Aaron Kitzmiller, Nathan Buttel, Matthew Buttel, and Seth Klatt; two step-grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin; daughter, Jean in 2002; and three brothers. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday November 1, 2017 at Silver Creek Reformed Church. Rev. Grant Mulder will officiate. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Church. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery.
