Milton Clotis Mcgee

Milton Clotis McGee, 90, went to his heavenly home on Saturday evening, April 12, 2014, surrounded by family. Born on November 3, 1923 in Quitman, Mississippi, Milton C. McGee was the seventh son of Emerson and Susie (Laymon) McGee. He grew up on the family farm in Quitman and graduated from Oak Park Vocational High School in Laurel, MS. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana and his Master's Degree from the University of Connecticut, School of Engineering. He served in the United States Marine Corp and was stationed in Europe for 3 years. Milton McGee was employed as a Chemical Engineer in New Haven, Connecticut for more than 30 years. In 1995, he moved to Freeport to be closer to his family. He loved the Lord and enjoyed singing gospel hymns. His rich baritone voice could be heard on occasion when he was in the pews at First Church of God in Freeport. He had a strong work ethic and even when he was no longer able to work, his daily conversations reminded the family about his love of working in the fields as a child on the farm in Mississippi. He is predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Christine (Broomsy) Salter and Loretta (Willie) Gage of Freeport; five brothers, LeRoy (Rosie Bell), WM (Magnolia) and Alonzo McGee of Quitman, MS; RC (Earnie Mae) of Rockford, IL, and Henry (Effie) of Freeport. He leaves to mourn his passing one sister, Earnestine (Merle) Norman and one brother, Frank (Arnetta) McGee all of Freeport, IL; a host of other caring and loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the entire First Church of God family. Milton loved his family and he will be remembered by everyone for his intelligence, his perseverance, and his unique laughter. Homecoming services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First Church of God, 484 So. Ottawa, Freeport, IL. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
