Michele Firebaugh

June 17, 1964 — November 20, 2024

Michele L. Firebaugh, 60, of Winnebago, went to be with the Lord on November 20, 2024 after a brief illness. Born on June 17, 1964, in Freeport, she was the daughter of Doug and Audrey (Bessert) Firebaugh. A 1982 graduate of Freeport High School, she went on to earn a BA in Accounting from Manchester University in 1986 and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame in 1992. She held accounting and finance positions for several companies, most recently Thermo Fisher Scientific in Rockford, before retiring in 2022.

Michele enjoyed needlepoint and crocheting, making many hats and blankets she gifted to friends and donated to hospitals. She was an avid reader, with spy thrillers and international intrigue books being her favorites. She also enjoyed playing the piano and served as the pianist/organist at her church for many years.

An avid sports fan, she was a life-long Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. She followed Notre Dame sports as well and attended at least one home ND football game each season.

Michele liked to travel, and she enjoyed many trips with her parents across the country and around the world.

She volunteered her time and talents to several organizations, most notably Bethany Theological Seminary, Camp Emmaus, and the Freeport Church of the Brethren.

Michele was an amazing aunt, taking great interest and pride in her nieces’ hobbies, sports, concerts, and adventures. She learned the rules of lacrosse and wrestling so she could cheer them on from the stands. She also learned the West Point lingo so she could follow their college/Army lives.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unforgettable memories. She is survived by her parents Doug and Audrey Firebaugh of Freeport, her sister Dena Guth (Karl) of Saint Charles MO, nieces Lauren and Katelyn Guth, uncles, aunts, and many cousins. A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM and celebration of life service starting at 11 AM on December 4 at the Freeport Church of the Brethren. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Bethany Theological Seminary, Manchester University, or the Freeport Church of the Brethren in her honor.
