Michael P. Conkey

Michael Conkey, 68, of Freeport IL passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side on Thursday September 16, 2021. He was born June 26, 1953 in Dixon IL to Robert and JoAnn (Brooks) Conkey. Michael was a 1971 graduate of Forreston High School. In his formative years he held various jobs before ending up working for 41 years for Danfoss Power Solutions as a CNC machinist, retiring in 2015. He married Cheryl Eder on September 27, 2002. Michael liked to travel and had a memorable trip to the Cayman Islands with close friends. He also enjoyed going thru antique shops in small towns and flea markets while taking all the scenic back roads to arrive at them. He liked to work in the yard, do crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and was an avid reader. There was never a dull moment around Michael. He was a quiet soft spoken individual, intensely private and extremely funny & quick witted. We all loved him for it and we are all going to miss him very much. Michael is survived by his wife Cheryl of 18 years, his father Robert of Freeport IL, his sister Melody Conkey (and special friend Jake) of Bozeman MT and numerous nieces and a nephew. Also surviving are brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jeff & Shari Eder. He was preceded in death by his mother JoAnn, brothers Brian, Derrick and William Conkey, nephew Joshua Conkey, and father-in-law & mother in-law Harold & Ruth Eder. A special thank you to all the FHN Hospice workers who helped us so much. Per Michael's request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation rites will be accorded.
