Michael "Mike" Allen Boomgarden

Michael "Mike" Allen Boomgarden, 65, of Forreston, died Wednesday January 20, 2021 at St. Anthony O.S.F., Rockford. Mike was born February 18, 1955 in Rapid City, South Dakota, the son of LeRoy and Ilene (Suttman) Boomgarden. Mike enjoyed being in the outdoors, riding his motorcycle, shooting, hunting, showing cattle, and doing farm work. He will be remembered as a great storyteller. Above all else, he loved his daughter. Mike was a graduate of Highland Community College and Police Training Institute in Champaign, IL. He worked in law enforcement for four decades. Working for the Stephenson County Sheriff's Department as Chief Deputy, then and as Police Chief in both Forreston and German Valley. He was a former member of the Stephenson County Board. Mike was awarded V.I.P of German Valley during German Valley Days. Surviving is his mother Ilene, of Mt. Morris; daughter, Katherine 'Katie" Boomgarden of German Valley; Katie's mother, Laura Hillman of German Valley; brother, Brian (Kathy) Boomgarden of Manitowoc, WI.; nephew, Cade (Mayra Moreno) Boomgarden; niece, Oriel (Eric) Combs; domestic partner, Sue Webber; and many other close friends. Mike was preceded in death by his father and stepson, Chad Ford. A visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Saturday January 30, 2021 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Forreston. Following the visitation, a family graveside service will be held at Silver Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for "Mike Boomgarden Memorial Bike Rodeo".
