Michael D. Schnierla

Michael D. Schnierla, 76, of Freeport died Friday July 29, 2022 in his home. I wanted to let everyone know how blessed in have been Now I am with the Lord Jesus. I was raised in a Christian home and knew the Lord from a young age, I have been blessed for 74 years, I married my high school sweetheart, Paula Wallock December 9, 1967, were married for 54 wonderful years. Have two great sons, Michael and Jason, 5 grandchildren - Shaley, Ryan. Avery, Hanna and Jason Jr., a great granddaughter - Braelynn. Graduated from Freeport High in 1964, went to Highland and graduated with a degree in Business from Roosevelt University. Served three years of active duty in the Navy and nine years in the Naval Reserves. My life was great, worked 45 years as a property insurance adjuster, traveling throughout the country, worked part time jobs as security guard, theater assistant manager, janitor and dishwasher. As a child I wanted to be a fireman and another time wanted to be a police officer, I was blessed in being able to do both. I was a fireman on Freeport Rural Fire Department retiring as a captain, serving just over 40 years. I was a reserve deputy with Stephenson County Sheriff Department for 35 years and was so blessed in being able to do both. The one regret is not having spent more time with family instead of working. I tried to live my life by "serving HIM by serving others and would encourage everyone to do the same. My joy in life was my family, The Church of the Brethren and Freeport Rural Fire Dept and Stephenson County Sheriff Reserve, I invite all to join in my memorial service 11:00 A.M. Saturday August 6, 2022 at The Church of the Brethren, Freeport, IL. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. A desert celebration will follow the service. Memorials have been established for Camp Emmaus, Mt. Morris and The Church of The Brethren, Freeport.
