Merry M. Liburd

September 2, 1942 — December 28, 2021

Beloved Mother, grandmother, sister, and friend Merry Melody Liburd (affectionately known as Melody) was called home by our heavenly father December 28, 2021 at FHN Memorial Hospital Freeport, Illinois. Melody has always exhibited a strong faith in God as she accepted Christ at an early age and despite life's circumstances remained an active member in her church as well as a faithful prayer warrior trusting God to see her through all situations with her favorite quote being "Walk by Faith and Not by Fear" and one her favorite songs being He'll Never Put More on Me Than I Can Bear for which she loved hearing grandchildren sing. Melody began her education in the Freeport Public School System and went on to obtain her Professional Licensure in Assistant Cosmetology, Real Estate/ Insurance, Head Start Food Sanitation, and Certified Nursing Assistant from Rockford Beauty School, Rock Valley and Highland Community College respectively. Melody was viewed by many as an extraordinary person who was dedicated to uplifting her family, friends, and community through her acts of kindness and community outreach addition to supporting many religious and civics charities throughout Stephenson and Winnebago Counties. She loved all her children and grandchildren and was an inspiration to many of them by Always Showing Up in support and providing them with the motivation to improve lives through education, civic engagement, and entrepreneurship. Merry was preceded in death by her husband Rupert Liburd, mother Berniece Burris, stepfather Franklin Burris, grandmother Mary Maude Harrell, special uncle Grant Harrell, brother Jeffery Burris, son Darney Pickens, daughter M. Rebecca Pearson, grandson Walter Hayward and great grandchild and best friend LaVern Clark. Melody leaves to cherish her memories five daughters Lorita Burris, Gloria Driver, Wardella Pearson and Melvina Liburd all of Freeport, Illinois and Ruth Darneice Brown of Brinkley, Arkansas, Bonus daughter Verita Pearson of California. Six sons Joshua (Vencelia)Pickens of Rockford, Illinois, William Pickens Phoenix, Arizona, Warren Pearson, Samson Liburd, and Rupert John Liburd, all of Freeport, Illinois, and Dr. Solomon (Tamiko) Liburd of Oswego, Illinois. Bonus son Sidney Pearson of Wisconsin one brother William Burris of Washington and one sister Bernita (Keith) Edison of Nevada. and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday January 7, 2022, at Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ, Freeport, Illinois. A visitation will be held on Thursday January 6, 2022, at Burke and Tubbs Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00 P.M. There will also be a visitation Friday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Masks and social distancing will be required at the visitation and service. Burial will be in Freeport City Cemetery.
