Melvin Williams, 66, of Freeport, died Friday February 20, 2015 at ANAM Care in Rockford. He was born September 3, 1948 in Indianola, MS, the son of Robert and Parthena (Nance) Williams. He married Sharon Taylor November 17, 1973 in Freeport, IL. Melvin worked as an electronic technician at Micro-Switch/Honeywell for 38 years; and retired as a sales trainer involved with marketing. He was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in which he was a member of COLLORS and other church activities. He also volunteered with the Freeport Boys & Girls Club. Melvin is survived by his wife Sharon of Freeport, IL; his son Kristopher Williams of Freeport, IL; two brothers Jim Rush of Memphis, TN and Adam Williams of Atlanta, GA; three sisters Barbara Williams, Mary Braden both of Rockford, IL, and Gloria Williams of Atlanta, GA; mother-in-law Lillian Taylor of Freeport, IL; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Robert and Samuel Williams; his sister Sandra Williams; and a special friend Jeffrey Taylor. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday February 28, 2015 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Demond Newburn officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Friday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established for St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.
