Melvin R. Penning

Melvin R. 'Rex' Penning, 93, of Forreston, died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Illinois Veterans Home, LaSalle, Illinois. He was born December 2, 1918 near Forreston, Illinois the son of George and Johannah (Groenwold) Penning. Mr. Penning was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran. He was employed by Commonwealth Edison and later worked as a self employed electrician. Mr. Penning was a avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed collecting guns and fishing poles. He was a life member of the N.R.A. and was a member of the Forreston American Legion. He is survived by his step-nephew, John (Neva) Grady of Chana, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Ora Grady and Loretta Penning who died at infancy. A memorial service will be held Saturday, 10:00 A.M.
