Melvin Lester Sorn, 75, of Freeport, died Sunday September 25, 2011 at Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Melvin was born on August 3, 1936, the son of Lawrence and Frieda (Bornmeier) Sorn. He attended Freeport Schools. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Melvin worked at Micro Switch for over 30 years. He enjoyed sports especially bowling and baseball. Survivors include daughter; Teresa "Terry" Rasmussen of Lebanon, Maine, son; David Sorn of North Branch, MN, also grandson Tyler Bloom of Merrimac, Wisconsin, 4 sisters; Lois Wyckhuys of Rock Falls, Nelda (Stanley) Clark of Grants Pass, Oregon, Marilyn Thiel of Freeport, Carol Lizer of Pecatonica and one brother Joseph (Jean) Sorn of Freeport, former wife; Emily Good. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Belva (Charles) Stoll and Patrica (Dennis) Barrett and brother Glenn Sorn. Memorial Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday October 1, 2011 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home with Rev. Tom McClellan officiating. Visitation will be Saturday 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at Burke Tubbs. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Melvin'™s memory.
