Melvin Dale Rackow, 87, of Freeport, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Home. Melvin was born March 31, 1931 in Stephenson County, the son of Lester and Edna (Kortman) Rackow. He married Vanette L. Myers on September 25, 1949. Melvin farmed the Orangeville area for 60 years. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, Vanette L. Rackow of Freeport; daughter, Julie (Terry) Moss of Freeport; sister, Violet Witt of Freeport; brothers, Leowen (Joyce) Rackow of Lena and Eldon Rackow of Orangeville; grandchildren, Andrea (Jason) Elgin of Monroe, Wisconsin, and their children, Kaitlyn, Jadyn, Alexis and Eli; Kelly (Jamie) Campbell of Pearl City, and their children, Skylar, Kylie, Morgan, and Carson; and Michael (Lori) Moss of Denver, Iowa, and their children, Braedyn, Jaxson, Asher, and twins, Adley, and Ethan Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leo. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday December 10, 2018 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Rev. Dr. Dean Pittelko will officiate. Visitation 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Sunday December 9, 2018 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation Monday 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at Our Redeemer. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Following the committal there with be a luncheon at Our Redeemer Church that all friends and family are invited to attend.
