Mattie M Walker

Mattie Mae Walker was born March 25, 1946 in Gunnison, Mississippi. Her parents Eliza and Charlie McCraney (Stepfather). She was the eldest of seven children. Mattie met the love of her life Jimmy Walker in Gunnison, Mississippi. They moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1967 and was united in a Holy Matrimony (later divorced). To this union was born five children, her first born preceded her in death. Mattie attended West Bolivar School District in Rosedale, Mississippi. She had multiple careers. Her work included Kola Lab, American Made Co., Chicago Public Schools, and JCPenney's. She was also an entrepreneur as a relator, breaking down and building new homes in Chicago, IL. She retired from LaGrange Memorial Hospital as a Business Administrator. She was an awesome Mother, loving, caring, patient, and humble to her family and all those who crossed her path. She was an excellent cook (chef) and baker, and she fed a multitude of people. Mattie was a member of Living Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, IL and later became a member of Faith For Miracle D & W C. She was truly a virtuous woman of God. When she opens her mouth of wisdom her tongue was a law of kindness, her children raised up and called her blessed, her works praised her in the gates. The Lord called her home on November 10, 2020, and God said, "Well done my good and faithful servant". Mattie leaves to cherish her loving memory, three daughters: Stephanie Walker, Shirley (Michael) Bowen, and Simone Walker. One son, Jimmy Walker all of Freeport, Illinois. Ten grandchildren, Tiaira Walker, Shanequa Bowen, Marshae Bowen, Tiffany Walker, Isaiah Walker, Aniya Walker, Zion Sherman, Destini Walker, Travon Tibias, Demetri Dotson, and Landon Dotson. Two great-grandchildren, Nasir Caldwell, and Serenity Kerr. Four stepsons, Shawn Shumate, Jimmy (Mookie) Walker, Deonte Walker, and Diego Bell. One sister, Katie McCraney and four brothers, Charlie McCraney, Arthur McCraney, Charles McCraney, and Clark McCraney. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Ella McCraney and one nephew, Arthur (Red) McCraney. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday November 21, 2020 at Faith For Miracle Deliverance and Worship Center with Bishop James Wade officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Freeport City Cemetery.
