Matthew "Matt" Karl Mordick

Matthew Karl Mordick, loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle, 44, of Freeport, passed away, Sunday February 26, 2023. Matt was born June 3, 1978 in Freeport the son of Robert "Butch" and Ann (Smoyer)Mordick. Matt was a graduate of Freeport High School. Along with his father, and brother Dan, they owned and operated Mrs. Mike's Potato Chips. Matt took great pride in the family business. Matt married his loving wife Crystal, on August 24, 2018. Matt had a larger-than-life personality. If you were around Matt, you were in for a great time. He enjoyed following University of Illinois basketball and football teams. Matt looked forward to the summertime every year, having friends over at his swimming pool where he could show off his muscular build and year-round tan. He will be missed by so many. Surviving is his beloved wife, Crystal Mordick; father, Robert "Butch" Mordick; son, Landen Mordick; daughter, Gabi Mordick; siblings, Beth (Tom) Peterson, Daniel Mordick, both of Freeport, and Michael (Cheri) Mordick of Troutville, Virginia; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Matt was preceded in death by his mother, Ann. A celebration of Life will be held at a date still to be determined. A memorial has been established in Matt's memory.
