Mary Catherine Schwartz, 95, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Monday April 7, 2025 at Winn Prairie in Freeport, IL with her family by her side.

Mary was born on October 22, 1929 in Freeport, IL to Frank and Helen (Loughran) Kehl. She married Orvin Schwartz on April 19, 1948 in Lena, IL. They purchased a farmette south of Freeport in 1982, where Mary enjoyed gardening, every year exhibiting her flowers at the Stephenson County Fair. She helped with raising the livestock and especially enjoyed the horses and young calves. She loved the springtime when she and her dog, Roxie would go hunting for new baby calves. Mary worked at Furst McNess for 22 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church since 1952. An avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish, where she rarely missed watching their games.

Mary is survived by her children, Vicky Schwartz of Freeport IL, Margaret (Peggy) Dixon of Cedarville, IL, Tim Schwartz of Naples, FL, Pat (Dawn) Schwartz of Naples, FL, and Kelley Cassels of Whigham, GA, grandchildren, Rich (Sara) Dixon, Jeremy (Karla) Dixon, Alex (Charlotte) Schwartz, Nathan (fiancé Stepani,), Kaitlin (Chris) Johnson, Sam Cassels and Lauren Cassels, great-grandchildren, Parker Dixon, Carson, Dixon, Jeremia, Dixon, Mackynzie Dixon and John Johnson, and sister Patrica (Robert) Muschamp, along with many nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Orvin, her parents Frank and Helen Kehl, son-in-laws Dan Dixon and John Cassels, and siblings, Robert and James Kehl.

Funeral mass will be 10:30 A.M. Friday April 11, 2025 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Freeport, Father Peter Snieg officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. There will also be a visitation from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Thursday April 10, 2025 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Freeport. A memorial has been established in Mary's memory.
