Mary Lou Ensign, 1928-2020 Mary Lou Young Ensign passed away August 10, 2020 in Richland Hills, TX at the age of 92 from Alzheimer's Disease. Mary Lou was born May 26, 1928 in San Diego and at 6 months old her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. She spent her early years there and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in education. Mary Lou met her husband, Angus Cannon "Ace" Ensign Jr at the university and they married in 1950. They moved to Freeport, IL in 1953 when Ace got a job with Micro Switch. She loved Freeport; it was home. She lived there until 2019 when she moved to Texas. Mary Lou taught school at Taylor Park and Jane Addams Schools and loved being a home-bound resource teacher. She enjoyed gardening, handwork and crafts and supporting her children in all their activities. When Ace retired in 1985, they started serving Church Service missions at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chicago Temple. Mary Lou loved serving in the temple. She and Ace eventually served 3 missions at the temple. When Ace passed away in 2001, Mary Lou continued attending the temple. Mary Lou loved Taco Bell. She celebrated each of her birthdays at Taco Bell, and even gave each family member a Taco Bell gift card for Christmas 2018! She especially loved serving the women of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Freeport. She loved Jesus Christ and serving people and teaching the Gospel. Always a teacher. Mary Lou LOVED the color green! Be it dcor, furniture, walls, carpet, clothes or jewelry, green was always the best. She is survived by her 6 children: Ace (Judy) Ensign of Antelope, CA; Marc (Pat) Ensign of Hartsville, SC; Eden (Bill) Schiffmann of Lago Vista, TX; Meredith (David) Jeppson of Fort Worth, TX; Matt (Shelley) Ensign, of Freeport, IL; Pyper (David) Dow of Alpine, CA).
