Mary Lee Hauser

December 21, 1931 — March 7, 2023

Mary Lee Hauser, 91, peacefully passed away at home on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, in Freeport, IL, surrounded by family members. Mary was born on December 21, 1931 in Burlington, IA, to Bertrand and Dorella Robinson, the fifth of eight children. Mary and Richard (Dick) Hauser were married on June 23, 1953, and celebrated almost 68 years of marriage before Dick passed away in 2021. Mary has one surviving sibling, Joyce (Ken) Adamson, of Sacramento, CA, and two sisters-in-law, Paula Fargen of Louisville, KY and Carolyn Hauser of Burlington, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and siblings: Sinker Robinson, Richard Robinson, Donna Coffield, Patsy Staub McGoon, Lois Deiling and Joan Hinkson. Mary graduated from St. Paul Central High School in Burlington, IA, and went to work for the family business, BL Robinson Electric Supply Company. She played the organ during her high school years for St. Patrick's Church in Burlington. She married Dick and moved to Fort Monmouth, NJ, as he was stationed in the Army there. They then moved to Iowa City, IA and finally settled in Freeport, IL, where they raised six children and became the proud grandparents of twenty-two grandchildren and an ever growing number of great-grandchildren. Mary was a homemaker as her children were growing up. When her children were older, she worked for WIC (Women, Infants and Children) at the Stephenson County Health Department. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, where she was involved with Perpetual Adoration, Serenity Group, Funeral Choir and funeral luncheons, as well as many other different service groups. She was fond of get-togethers with her bridge group, her craft group and the Red Hat Ladies. Mary rarely missed any of her grandchildren's sporting events and theater productions. Mary's faith was very important to her and she enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up receiving their Sacraments. Other common memories from her grandchildren include visits to various ice cream parlors and stopping by grandma's house for lunch as she would always have something ready and available for whoever stopped. The kitchen cookie jar was a family favorite and was the first stop for anyone visiting. Holiday celebrations were always looked forward to until they eventually grew too large for their house. Survivors include her children: Michele "Micky" Weber, Mary Kay (Paul) Temple, Richard (Lynn Feiner) Hauser, Jr, James (Shannon Weis) Hauser, Sarah (Russ) Hasken and Andrea (David) Sutherland. Her grandchildren and great-children include: Jennifer (Pete) VanHorn and Zachary, David (Leanne) Weber and Delaney, Bryce and Finley, Karrie (Marcos) Leza and Arthur and Kora, Mark (Bree) Temple and Declan, Andrew (Jill) Temple and Joshua, Nathan, Abigail, and Olivia, Kathryn (Tyler) Dunkel, Rich (Lu) Hauser and Angela and Emilia, Matt Hauser, Steve Hauser, Robyn Hauser, Leah Hauser (Corbin Kappes), Tom (Steph) Hauser and Elias, JT (Ashley) Hauser and Paisley, Jamie, Harvey and Lottie, Dan (Nikki) Hauser, Liz (Adam) Young and Hallie and George, Rachel Hauser (Chandler Chatters), Erica, Ally and Maddie Hasken, and Grace, Lauryn and Ava Sutherland.
