Mary Johnson, 82, of Freeport, IL, departed this earthly life on August 26, 2015 at FHN Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. Mary was born July 25, 1933 to the union of the late Sarah Ann Stovall and Charlie Martin. Mary was the oldest of ten children. Mary lived in Freeport, IL since 1965 after coming from Lexington, MS, with her two children. In 1976 Mary, married Archie "Peck" Johnson. She later accepted Christ under the officiate of Rev. Darnell Thomas at St. Martin Missionary Baptist Church. Mary worked at Honeywell until her retirement in 1993. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995. Mary later joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ricky Stidman. At Friendship, Mary served on the Mother's Board where she remained until her health began to fail. Mary enjoyed gardening, sewing, fishing, and watching baseball on TV. Mary was a huge Chicago Cubs fan. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren. Mary was very close with her sisters. Mary leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter Ruthie Green of Romulus, MI; daughter-in-law Linda Williams-Green; four siblings Preston Martin of Durant, MI, Doris Ellis and Juanita (Van) Thurmond both of Freeport, IL, and Johnny (Carolyn) Stovall of Meridian, MS; seven grandchildren Linda (Leslie) Green of Freeport, IL, Richard (Caroline) Green, Bobby (Debra) Green, Nicole Green, Darnell Williams, and Antonio Williams all of Michigan, and Delonce (Bernice) Green of Arlington, TX; 21 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; four special friends Hazel Crump, Mary Shipp, and Dean and Josephine Zimmerman; her god daughter Daisy (Willie) Martin; seven step-children William (Ethel), Robert, Walter, and Paulette Johnson, Doris Wright, Joyce Johnson-Boggess, and Edna (Michael) Johnson-Smith; and a host of other friends and family. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Archie Johnson; her son Percy Green; her two sisters Maggie Mae Denton and Johnnie Mae Spratling; and two brothers Charlie and James Martin. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday September 5, 2015 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Stidman officiating.
