Mary Jane E. Roskam, 91, formerly of Baileyville, a much loved mother, grandmother, and Oma, died, Wednesday June 19, 2013 at Fairhaven Retirement Center in Rockford. Mary Jane was born on October 23, 1921 in Goshen, Indiana, the daughter of Paul and Erma (Nickler) Middleton. On September 20, 1941, Mary Jane married Merrill W. Roskam in St. Joseph, Missouri. Mr. Roskam died on August 14, 1999. Mary Jane worked at the post office in Baileyville and at Stover Steel in Freeport. She was a member of Baileyville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in Kings Daughter. Mary Jane was also a 4-H leader. She enjoyed sewing, spending time with her family and always living life to the fullest. She is survived by her son, Mervin (Sue) Roskam of Hoover, Alabama; daughters, Julia (Gary) Johnson of Pecatonica, and Deborah (Randy) Trei of Rockford. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, and one great grandson, Ben Johnson. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday June 24, at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Pastor Verlyn Swanson and Matthew Roskam will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at Burke Tubbs. Burial will take place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
