Mary Helen Powers

Mary Helen Powers, 92, of Freeport, died Wednesday May 16, 2018 at Parkview Home in Freeport. Mary was born October 14, 1925 in Freeport, IL; the daughter of Alfred and Edna (Shadle) Stanley. She married Joseph Powers July 9, 1955 in Freeport, IL; he died January 9, 1992. Mary graduated from Aquin High School and the University of Michigan. She worked for Furst McNess and Cadillac Motor Division in Detroit, MI. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Guild, Germania Club, Amity, and the Bridge Clubs. She loved going to the Union Dairy, her favorite was chocolate soda with New York ice cream. Mary is survived by two nephews, Ronald (JoAnn) Sandberg of Bettendorf, IA and Robert (Susan) Sandberg of Rock Island, IL; two cousins, Vicki Bushelle of Freeport, IL and Mary Jane Kilburn of Oklahoma City, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. The family would like to thank Jeannie, Jean, and Sarah with FHN Hospice, and the entire staff at Parkview Home for their wonderful care. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday May 23, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Timothy Barr officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at St. Mary's.
