Mary Ann Burke, 91, of Freeport died Thursday at Manor Court of Freeport. She was born July 9, 1920 in Freeport the daughter of Albert and Anna (Meyer) Enzler. Mary Ann was a United States Coast Guard Women'™s Reserve Veteran serving from July, 1943 to June, 1946. On October 10, 1970 she married F. Eugene Burke in Rockford, Illinois. He died August 26, 1990. Mrs. Burke was employed by First National Bank of Freeport . She was appointed an officer, the first women officer in the history of the bank. She retired in 1982 after a Forty One year career. Mary Ann was a lifelong member of Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She served on the Stephenson County Senior Center Board of Directors from 1982-1986 and served as Treasurer from 1984-1988. She was a former board member of Y.M.C.A. She was a member of Governor'™s Board, St. Joseph and St. Francis Home. She served on the Parkview Home Board and was Past President of Women'™s Division of Chamber of Commerce. Mary Ann enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards and following the Chicago White Sox. Mary Ann is survived by her Sister in Law, Norma J. Enzler. Five Nieces; Kay A. Hadjokas, Sally A. Enzler, Susan A. (Carlton) Johnson, Sandra A. (Charles) Giesen and Lori A. Enzler. Four children; Thomas E. (Patty) Burke, John P. (Mary Jane) Burke, Ann E. Kuhse and Robert G. (Dena) Burke; Seven grandchildren; Nicholas and Andrew Kuhse, Michael and Brian Burke, Ashley and Aaron Burke, and Claire Burke; and also one great-grandaughter, Kyrsten Kuhse. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and Two brothers, P. Robert Enzler and Herbert J. 'Bud' Enzler. A Funeral Mass will be Monday 10:30 A.M. in Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Freeport. Msgr. P. William McDonnell, pastor will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday, 1:00-3:00 P.M. in Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home Freeport . A rosary service will be held at 12:30 P.m. Visitation will also be from 9:30 A.M. until time of service Monday at Saint Thomas. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Freeport.
