Marvin Lee Mays

Marvin Lee Mays aka "Plute" Age 67, Left his earthly home early Wednesday morning, December 20 at 12:30 a.m. in Freeport Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. Marvin was surrounded by his wife, daughter and sister-in-law. Marvin was born in New Madrid, Missouri to W.Conner and Gracie Hicks Mays on August 15, 1950. To this union, Marvin had two brothers and three sisters. Marvin moved to Illinois as a young man where he met the love of his life, LaVonna Carter. To this union they had one daughter, LaShon. He was also the proud god-father of one godson Andre Carter, and two goddaughters Lynnette Medcalf and Vickie Hayes. Marvin was employed by Kelly Springfield and worked many years for the City of Freeport. Marvin was a member of Phillipians Missionary Baptist Church, Freeport, Illinois. He was a former member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist church where he was baptized under the leadership of Pastor Peter F. Williams. Marvin was preceeded in death by his parents, one brother and sister and one nephew. Marvin leaves to cherish his memory his wife LaVonna Mays,one daughter, LaShon (Ray) Bagsby, and three grandsons, Rayshaun, Reginald and Rylan Bagsby all of McDonough, GA; Two goddaughters, Lynnette Medcalf of woodbury, Minnesota and Vickie Hayes of Chicago, Illinois, and one godson, Andre Carter of Rockford, Illinois. He also leaves to cherish two sisters, Lenora (Sereal SR-Deceased) Lay of Glendale, Ky and Anna Goins of New Madrid, Mo. One brother, Larry Mays of Elizabethtown, Ky; three sister-in-laws, Pauletta (Edward) Collins, Sarah Carter (Renardo Weathersby- Fiance) of Freeport, IL, Claudette (Jerome-Deceased) Thomas of Dubuque, IA, Marilyn Carter of Dallas, Tx, and Brother-in-laws Henry (Mary) Carter Jr. and Quincy (Carmen) Carter Sr both of Freeport, IL. Special Friends included Rose Ann (Leon-Deceased) Kennedy, Gene (Gloria) Walls, Brian Love, Georgina "Lil George" Haynes, Stanley Farrar, and Loretta (Fred) Harston all of Freeport, IL. He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The visitation for Mr. Mays will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing before the service starting at 10:00 a.m. St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church is located 607-641 E.
