Martha Jean Sperle

Martha Jean Sperle, 90, died August 18th at Manor Court of Freeport. Martha was born July 24, 1921 in Salem, Indiana, the daughter of Homer and Addie (Zink) Thixton. Martha graduated from Salem High School. On November 25, 1945 Martha married Frederick O. Sperle in Salem, Indiana. He passed away on October 11, 1996. Martha was a fifty year member of McFarland Lutheran Church, a charter member of Lions Club in McFarland, a member of Tabitha Circle, ALCW, and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bradenton, Florida. Martha moved to Freeport in 1997 and joined First Lutheran Church. Survivors include two sons; Dean (Ann) Sperle of Freeport and David (Mary) Sperle of Oakdale, CA; one sister, Julia Dyer of Salem, Ind.; two grandchildren, Allen (Traci) Sperle and Carolyn (John) Mitchell; 4 great-grandchildren, Emmagrace and Dalton Sperle and Graham and Aidan Mitchell; and two step great grandchildren James and Jared Mitchell. Martha was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard Thixton. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 23rd at 11 AM at First Lutheran Church in Freeport Rev. Keith Johnson will officate. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service. A memorial has been established for First Lutheran Church in her memory.
