Marsden "Moon" Wilhelms

Marsden "Moon" Lee Wilhelms of German Valley, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Liberty Village of Freeport. He was born February 10, 1922, the son of Samuel and Luella (Otto) Wilhelms and graduated from Leaf River High School. He married Lavon Leerhoff on October 22, 1946. They farmed together on South Holland Church Road for over 40 years. They retired and moved to German Valley in 1989. In addition to his work on the family farm, he was active in the community including serving on the school board, the German-American State bank board, the church consistory, the Ridott township board and the German Valley elevator board. Moon is survived by his loving wife Lavon and his children who include Stephanie Wilhelms (Paul Dillon) of Truckee, CA, Kathleen Fincher of Castle Rock, CO, Kevin (Julie) Wilhelms of Ridott, IL, Tracy(Newell) Jennings of Wheaton, IL, Lyndon(Pietro Savarino) Wilhelms of Frankfurt, Germany. He enjoyed his grandchildren Aaron Fincher, Janaka Dillon, Nicole Wilhelms, Kristen Rivenbark, and Quinn Jennings and his great grandchildren Liliko'i Dillon and Charles Rivenbark. He is also survived by two sisters Verla Kelley-Johnson and Betty Pruitt and one brother Kenneth(Lorraine) Wilhelms . Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday February 1, 2014 at Grace Valley Christian Reformed Church in German Valley. Rev Adam Stout and Rev. Pete DeJong will officiate. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place at Grace Valley Christian Reformed Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his name.
