Marion Lucille Fluegel

Marion Lucille Fluegel, 92, of Freeport, passed away at Ava's House Hospice Facility in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Saturday June 27, 2020. Marion was born December 28, 1927 in Freeport, Illinois, to Karl and Mary (Otto) Althoff. She was a 1945 graduate of Forreston High School. Marion married Robert R. Fluegel in Freeport IL on April 8, 1951. Mr. Fluegel died May 19, 1995. She spent her life caring for her family as a devoted mother, housemaker and farm wife. She was a member of Trinity/Harmony Methodist Church for 70 years where she also taught Sunday School. After Marion graduated high school in 1945, she was employed by Ringers Jewelry Store in Freeport. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved to travel throughout the world. Marion was also a volunteer at FHN Memorial Hospital for 33 years. Surviving are her children, Nancy (Bob) Cole of Crystal Lake, Illinois, and Lori (Rick) Zylstra of Sheldon, Iowa; grandchildren, Cory (Sylvia) Smith of Troy, Ohio, Troy (Sarah) Reeder of Austin, Texas; Ryan (Janae) Hepler of Clive, Iowa, Aaron (Carmon) Hepler of West Des Moines, Iowa, Alison (Sean) Angelo of Huntley, Illinois, and Arie VanZee of Ames, Iowa; also surviving are twelve great-grandchildren. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Mary (Otto) Althoff; husband, Robert R. Fluegel; siblings, Louis Althoff, Vera Reynolds, Robert Althoff; grandson, Matthew Reeder; daughter, Rita (Fluegel) Reeder; and son-in-law, Mark Reeder. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday July 3, 2020 at Harmony Methodist Church. Pastor Eddie Eddy Sr. will officiate. Covid restrictions will be strictly followed at the funeral service with a maximum of 50 people allowed to attend. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday July 2, 2020 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
