Marian Jeanette Brechtel

October 16, 1921 — March 20, 2013

Marian Jeanette (Teuscher) Brechtel, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 20, 2013 at Freeport Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was born on a farm north of Monroe, WI on October 16, 1921. She was the daughter of John and Anna (Gempler) Teuscher. Marian began first grade at Pleasant Hill Grade School and the Oneco Grade School from second through fifth grade. Her family moved to Orangeville when she was in sixth grade, and continued there until graduating from Orangville High School on May 25, 1939. She prided herself in winning Oneco Township spelling contest when she was in eighth grade (1934). During her sophomore and junior year in high school, she worked for Mrs. Davis, who ran a boarding house, to earn her room and board. On November 19, 1939 she married C. Elwyn Shippy. They were divorced in 1946. Of this union two children were born: Linda (Shippy) Molter and Gary G. Shippy. On April 12, 1949 she married Gale W. Brechtel. They were married 62 years and he passed away on January 14, 2012. In 1945, she went to work at Burgess Battery where she worked for two years. In 1947, she went to work at Micro Switch where she worked for 30 years retiring in 1977. Marian loved to crochet (making doilies and afghans for everyone), loved traveling, going antiquing, and loved going to the dog track at Dubuque. She especially adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marian is survived by her two children Linda Molter of Freeport, and Gary (Charlene) Shippy Allen, TX; five grandchildren Wendy (Mark) Schardt of Freeport, Richard (Robb Hutchinson) Molter of Carbondale, Penny (Daniel) Julius of Freeport, Dr. Michael Shippy of Dallas, TX, and Tim (D'™Ann) Shippy of Frisco, TX, and eight great-grandchildren Brianna and Jenna Schardt, Grace and Gregory Julius, Tyler, walker, Rexford, and Wyn Shippy; two brothers Robert Teuscher of Ames, IA and John (Joyce) teuscher of Grafton, WI; also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirlene Bartos; brother Bill Teuscher; and four great-grandchildren, Malachi Schardt, Taylor Julius, Christian Juluis, and Zachary Shippy. Funeral services for Mrs. Brechtel will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday March 23, 2013 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, with Rev. Bill Blomberg officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 P.M. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her memory.
